Field Report: The Neighborhood
Posted March 25th, 2009 by Chris

Before heading to 4th and B for comedy night with Craig Gass, the wife and I decided to stop at a place called The Neighborhood. Located on the corner of 8th and G, Neighborhood offers a 4-page menu with only 1-page dedicated to food and the rest to their extensive lists of beer and wine.
Upon entering The Neighbor hood you are welcomed by a unique atmosphere with parallelogram shaped tables, leather chairs, pictures of Jesus eating a sandwich, a long row of beer taps, bottles of wine on the walls and a mosaic of the San Diego skyline.
The Neighborhood prides itself on their extensive and unique offerings of local brews. It’s rare to find many brews like AleSmith’s Grand Cru, Horny Devil, Wee Heavy and Speedway Stout, but to find them all together is unheard of. They also had many favorites from Stone (Old Guardian, Oaked Arrogant and more) and some from Green Flash. The one beer on tap that was impressive was Ballast Point’s Victory at Sea. I had the opportunity to sample this during the first week of it’s release but to find that The Neighborhood offered it up on tap amazed me.
So what did we order? The wife opened with the San Diego Sampler which came with 4-4oz samples of some of San Diego’s best brews and I, the Strong Ale sampler which included Ballast’s Victory at Sea (12%ABV). The food, although not the highlight of this place, was amazing! Hands down the best Sweet Potato Fries EVER! And the Jalapeno Mac n’ Cheese complimented our brew samples perfectly. Rachel, our waitress, was kind, friendly, patient and caring when it came to our order and overall satisfaction. We will definitely be back!
